First, tell us about your family. Who makes up your crew?
I’m married to Travis, and together we have three amazing kids—Avery, Zoey, and Colyar. Outside of Doozie Doez, life is busy! Between ball fields, family, and friends, our days are full—but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What led you to take the leap and turn your baking into a business?
My family owned a 3-acre blueberry farm for 22 years, and that’s where my love for baking really began. I started by baking items for local farmers markets and our farm stand, then began making cakes for my kids and friends. Word of mouth spread quickly, and before I knew it, I was baking all kinds of things for more and more people.
Looking back, I never imagined Doozie Doez would become what it is today. I honestly thought I was just making cakes for friends and enjoying a little hobby to fill my time at home. It’s amazing to see how that small beginning has grown into something I’m so proud of.
How have your roles as business owner and mom shaped each other, and what do you hope your kids learn from watching you build something of your own?
Being a mom is hands-down my favorite role—nothing compares to it. Doozie Doez has grown far beyond anything I imagined, and figuring out a routine that works for both has been a great challenge. Now we get to spend so many moments together between packaging stuff, designing labels and delivering treats, which feels like the best of both worlds.
I hope my kids see the value of hard work and dedication, and that they grow up knowing they can do anything they set their minds to. Most of all, I hope they treasure the extra time we get to share because of this business.
Doozie Doez was voted Favorite Place to Get a Sweet Treat by local parents. What does that recognition mean to you, especially knowing it came directly from families in your own community?
Being voted favorite place for a sweet treat by local parents is something I’ll cherish every single day. I started Doozie Doez to bring joy to people’s celebrations, and knowing that families in our own community chose me makes it even more special. Getting to do something I love that also feels so rewarding truly fills my heart.
What does it mean to know Doozie Doez has become a part of Owensboro families’ traditions?
I’m truly honored that families choose Doozie Doez for those “something sweet” moments. Not having a traditional storefront has always been a challenge I’ve had to work around, but it’s never stopped me from finding ways to connect with people.
Since placing my grab-and-go fridge at Crazy Me Gifts & Apparel, it’s been wonderful to see customers stop in for a sweet treat, a quick bite, or a fun drink—and to become part of those little everyday moments. Having a place where people can easily find Doozie Doez has allowed me to serve more people and build so many meaningful relationships along the way.
And when I hear from families who find Doozie Doez at FireBowl, The Creme, Dee’s Diner, and Reid’s Orchard, I’m reminded that a physical storefront doesn’t define what we’re creating. Knowing something I made might become part of a birthday, a celebration, a family tradition, or simply a bright spot in someone’s day means more to me than I can put into words.
How has the community shaped your journey as a business owner, and what makes you proud to be building your business and raising your family here?
Doozie Doez simply wouldn’t exist without Owensboro and the incredible support this community has shown me. From loyal repeat customers to complete strangers who take a chance and trust me to create something special, I am deeply grateful. I’m especially honored when couples invite me to be part of their wedding and every other celebration.
I’ve given this business everything I have, and I’ll keep doing so. Owensboro has made me feel seen, valued, and worthy of the trust this community continues to place in me. That support has shaped every step of my journey as a business owner.
I couldn’t imagine raising my kids anywhere else. I hope they grow up seeing the kindness and encouragement this community offers, and that they learn how powerful it is to support other local businesses in return. There are so many amazing people here, and I’m proud to be building both my business and my family among them.
